Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our woodworking, construction services, and available lumber. If you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch.
What types of custom woodworking do you offer?
We offer custom woodworking for a wide variety of projects, including furniture like tables, benches, and cabinets; architectural details such as molding, mantles, and stair treads; and functional pieces like shelves, countertops, and built-ins. Whether it’s a large-scale project or a small, unique design, we can create whatever you have in mind.
Can I provide my own wood for a custom project?
Yes, we're happy to work with your materials or you can choose from our inventory of raw lumber.
Do you sell raw lumber?
Yes, we offer raw lumber sourced from our sawmill. Check out our Inventory page to see what’s available.
What’s the turnaround time for custom projects?
Timelines vary based on the project’s complexity. We’ll give you an estimated completion date when we discuss your design.
What do terms like 4/4, 6/4, and 8/4 mean?
These numbers refer to the thickness of the lumber in quarters of an inch. For example, 4/4 (pronounced "four-quarter") is roughly 1 inch thick when rough-cut, while 8/4 ("eight-quarter") is about 2 inches thick. After milling, the final thickness is slightly less due to planing.
What is a board foot, and how is it calculated?
A board foot (bf) is a way to measure the volume of lumber. It equals a piece of wood that’s 12 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. To calculate board feet, multiply the length, width, and thickness of the board in inches, then divide by 144.
How is your lumber priced?
Lumber is typically priced per board foot, with costs varying based on the drying time, wood species, thickness, and quality. Contact us for specific pricing details.
Do you sell both rough-cut and milled lumber?
Yes, we offer both. Rough-cut lumber retains its full thickness and may have a more rustic look, while milled lumber is planed smooth and cut to precise dimensions.
Can I visit your sawmill to select lumber?
Yes, visits can be arranged by appointment. We’d be happy to show you what we have in stock and help you choose the right lumber for your project.
What construction services do you provide?
We offer a range of general contracting services, including residential and light commercial construction, renovations, additions, and exterior projects like decks and patios. We also handle site work and excavation services with our backhoe, including grading, trenching, and land clearing. No matter the project, we’re equipped to handle it.
